a brief but triumphant… update!
hey everyone, we have been working out A LOT of the kinks. this summer was pretty stressful/successful, we had a lot of bumps in the road, but the good news it we will be attaining a fiscal sponsorship (more info coming soon). This means we can finally start writing grants. we also had our first guitar work shops, that went OK, we had to reorganize them a bit. stay tuned, we will have a lot more to say soon.

This summer has been oh so very rough. With many of the key members of Hyde Park Half being in and out of the country, working, and volunteering with other organizations it has been hard for us to get it all together.
I am writing this today to tell you all that this is all about to change.
Throughout the school year we WILL have a full calendar filled with workshops, open space-time, events, and meetings.
we have recently been approved for a fiscal sponsorship, meaning the sooner we start our mission statement, the sooner we can apply for grants. EVERYONE! THE TIME IS NOW! if you have any ideas please come to the meetings. This sunday is very important. BE THERE!! one in the pm.

Free Guitar Workshops
If you are an Inglewood young adult, high school, or middle school student and would like to the learn to play guitar, Hyde Park Half is now offering free workshops. You don’t need to own your own guitar as instruments will be provided.
The first workshop will tentatively be held on Teusday, August 10th, at 2pm in Centinela park:

Inglewood, CA 90302-3208
We’ll be meeting on the grass near the pool.

Summer Progress/meetings Sunday at 1:00
Hyde Park half meets every Sunday at 1:00. A few reasons you should come:
-We are keeping our original space (and perhaps eventually expanding to the
back room). We’ll be
hosting workshops starting now. We’re trying to be open regularly
beginning August 9th.
-We are now legitimate. We presented to Inglewood
Cultural Arts on Tuesday. We now get to use their
non-profit status for fundraising and grants.
-We will begin holding guitar workshops NOW. We have 11 guitars total.
If you can help teach kids to play guitar please come to the meeting to plan the workshops,
especially if your band has ever benefited from the Half by getting to
play a show here, or if you have ever attended a show and had fun in
this space.
Many of us have to go away for college in mid-late
August. If we’re going to stay open, we need more support. We still have many volunteers who are
very dedicated to the Half and will be here all year but they can’t do
everything alone. Please come and help.
We’ve been working really hard. This progress should be enough to
inspire everyone to come help out. See you at the Half on Sunday.
Talking Back to Education Conference
This Friday:
Inglewood collective Students up to Good (Sup Gee) are hosting a conference at Animo Inglewood High School in Inglewood: 3425 Manchester Blvd.
The event will feature student art and speakers regarding access to higher education. Try and make it out. Bring your student ID if you have one. Hyde Park Half will be tabling at this event starting at 2:30 pm and will probably be bringing some art. If you want a ride, show up at The Half at 2pm on Friday and you will be provided with one. It’s gonna be really awesome.
Free Venice Beach Trip Friday June 23 at noon!
This Friday, July 23rd, join Hyde Park Half for a trip to Venice Beach!
We’re leaving at noon from the Half (734 East Hyde Park Blvd. Inglewood, CA, 90302). Show up if you need a ride (we have permission slips if you’re under 18), or have a car and can drive people. We’re going to cruise Venice, walk in the sand, swim if you want, watch “performers,” and check out the new skate park. Bring your friends!
Free lunch on-the-go will be provided by Pomona Food Not Bombs! We will have everyone back to the Half by 6, and there will be cars leaving earlier if you can’t stay that long.
Hope everyone can come out. It’s gonna be a fun day.
(For those of you meeting us at Venice, we’ll be gathering at Muscle Beach at 2:00 pm and providing free lunch!)

We need everyone to come build momentum as we finish our summer projects.
Things we’ll discuss:
-Beach Day: Hyde Park Half goes to Venice on Friday, July 23rd
-Meeting time: Would more people be able to come if we moved the meetings to Saturdays permanently?
-The Move: we have photos and applications for four potential spaces and need your input
-Fundraising: we need $ to move into a new space. our goal is $4,000
-Summer Festival: we’ll throw a 3-day music festival the last weekend in August to raise money and build community

Hyde Park Half is in business!
Current status: We will be holding events in our original location all summer while we work on fundraising and moving into a permanent space to start regular workshops and tutoring.
Our first event of the summer is taking place this Friday, June 11th, at 7pm! Come to Hyde Park Half for food, art, fashion and music. Local designers and artists will be showing their work while acoustic musicians entertain us. Free food will be served. This event is free but donations are welcome. Bring your friends; it’s going to be a great night.

We usually meet at 734 1/2 Hyde Park Blvd. each Sunday at noon, but at our upcoming meeting we’ll be scouting another neighborhood for a new home. All are welcome.

for the time being all upcoming shows have been moved to various different locations. please note; This is in NO WAY slowing Hyde Park Half down, its actually quite the contrary. We will be working as hard.. if not harder then so we can get our new location up and running. please stay posted for more information.
