Planning Stages

November 24, 2009

The members of Hyde Park Half met for their third meeting on Sunday, November 22.  Again, rousing success.  Local students from Inglewood Honors High School showed up in force and spurred on positive ideas.  On tap for now is the creation of our business plan.  Next step is to take that business plan and our blueprints to the city zoning board for approval.

In great news, we are on the verge of securing our pro-bono lawyer to take over out fight for non-profit distinction.  Stay tuned!

If you would like to tutor, donate (time, money, supplies), or help out, please do not hesitate to email!  We need all the help we can get!

Everybody should go to this!  We are!  Go see the local art!  Hopefully we’ll be meeting some of our future instructors! For more information, go here:

16 Heads > 1

November 9, 2009

In what can only be described as a formidable success, roughly 16 heads (and their requisite 16 bodies) met at Hyde Park Half earlier today for the second official planning meeting.  All signs point to Hyde Park Half becoming a fully functional member of the community in record time.  Of interest, these ideas were discussed:

  • the accumulation of tutors
  • (break)dance classes
  • discount show prices for Hyde Park Half members
  • free show entrance for all Inglewood residents
  • funk, reggae, and rap bands
  • the Pico Youth Center and Youth Justice League of Inglewood
  • our two donated computers
  • sound permits

The current plan envisions Hyde Park Half operating as a tutoring center Monday through Friday from 2pm – 6pm.  From 6pm – 9pm, Hyde Park Half will be a committed space for artistic instruction or expression.  Live performances will take place on Fridays and Saturdays.

Step one is our application to become a nonprofit entity.  We’ve ascertained a lawyer pro bono who has already begun the process for us.  Pending nonprofit certification, Hyde Park Half will apply for various grants to ensure the economic prosperity of the project.

Thank you to everyone that attended.  To all that didn’t, please know that you are kindly welcome to the next planning meeting on Sunday November 22 at 11am.  Until that time, please peruse this site and send in a request to be a tutor.

Two shows and a meeting!

November 6, 2009

Hello everyone!

Heads up on our two upcoming shows and a meeting.  Tonight Letlive, Final Fight, Head High, and some others will be gracing the floor with their amalgam of rock music.  Tomorrow will see the likes of Punch, Sheeep, and a few others.  Both shows start at 6:30pm.

We’ll also be having a meeting on Sunday November 8 at 11am.  Please show up if you have any interest in helping the Hyde Park 1/2 get up on its feet.  We’ll be discussing our mission statement, non-profit status, future art and education projects, and shows.  If you do decide to come and can bring a gallon of water or some toilet paper or any other supplies that will be needed, that’d be greatly appreciated.

See you soon!

Welcome to Hyde Park Half

November 2, 2009

Welcome to Hyde Park Half, a new venue and community center focussed on providing free educational and artistic outlets to the Los Angeles area.  In the coming days we will be posting our mission statement and other projects we have in the works.  Until then, please see the calendar section for a list of upcoming musical performances that will be taking place.

Also, we will be having a meeting on Sunday, November 8th open to any and all members of the community that are interested in helping Hyde Park Half get on its feet.  The meeting will start at 11am. Stop by. Share ideas.
